Cryptogram

Cryptogram is a type of word puzzle where a phrase has been encoded. They can be solved by finding the solution letter for each symbol in the grid below. The letters can be decoded using a key at the bottom of the page or by solving anagrams. There is also an option to decode with a word list, which means that you will have to take words from your head and find where they fit within the grid.

You can encode a cipher to keep track of your decoding. Each letter is represented by a different letter (or number). Each letter can only be decoded to a different letter and two letters cannot decode to each other (so A on the third row, fourth column can’t decrypt as A).

How to solve a cryptogram

A cryptogram can be solved by finding the solution letter for each symbol in the grid below. The letters can be decoded using a key at the bottom of the page or by solving anagrams. There is also an option to decode with a word list, which means that you will have to take words from your head and find where they fit within the grid.

If there are any symbols on top of one another, it’s possible that those symbols could represent different letters (e.g., A-B). If this occurs, try drawing lines connecting them until one is above another. You should now see two separate symbols instead of just one line representing both letters together.

Note: Letters cannot decrypt as themselves nor can they decrypt as the letter next to them.

Tips to solve cryptogram

Start by decoding the letters on the left column. The rightmost letter of this row will be your key to understanding what a group of letters represent. In order for it to make sense, try reading from top-to-bottom and left-to-right within each line. Once you’ve solved the first line, move on to the next.
